Maureen, who attended Scarborough College in the 1960s, recalls the infamous tavern that was once located near campus and was a popular fixture for both students and faculty alike.

I had a part-time job at Eaton’s…Eaton’s Shoppers World on the Danforth, which helped me go to university and I certainly worked in the summers at Eaton’s.

So I was capable of paying my own tuition. My parents kept me, they fed me and gave me a bed and whatnot, but I could afford the books and the tuition myself,

and a little bit left over for entertainment to go to a movie or whatever. We couldn’t drink before until we were 21 so that certainly wasn’t a fact, although once I turned 21 there was an infamous pub down at the bottom which had strippers in it (laughter). I think I went there once for a beer.

[Ahmed:] Down at the bottom? [Maureen:] Down at the bottom of…Military Trail, if you went right to the bottom and headed sort of for Kingston Road, there was a pub there, like a tavern,

and that’s where one of my professors used to disappear quite regularly and not come back for the class (laughter). But, I think my first ever beer I had there, just with a friend and I think I was only ever there maybe once or twice.
