Franco Vaccarino began his career at UTSC in 1984 as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology. Between UTSC and a return to UofT as Chair of the Department of Psychology with responsibility for the tri-campus graduate program, he worked in several executive capacities at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH). Vaccarino returned to UTSC in 2007 as Vice President and Principal in 2007 and held that position until 2014. That seven-year period at UTSC was one of significant growth in the student and staff populations as well as facilities and reorganization. In this interview, he looks back on his time on campus, including the UTSC “growth strategy” and the development of UTSC’s identity as an independent institution.
