Nasir Alhuttam is a Scarborough local who has run a hot dog stand on the UTSC campus since 2006. In this interview, he shares his experience immigrating to Scarborough, Ontario from Yemen and his motivations behind opening a food stand at UTSC. He discusses how his stand has grown alongside the campus, and describes the stand as a social space that has served as an important point of connection for many UTSC staff, students, faculty, and community members over the years. Nasir also shares his perspective on how the Scarborough community has changed over the years, while holding on to the “family-oriented” ethos that makes it feel like home.
